The two co-runners of the About Buckets Podcast are a Warriors fan and a Spurs fan. So naturally, immediately after an Shakespearean, double-overtime Game 1, we e-mailed each other for the next twelve hours.
Sam: Spurs 129, Warriors 127, 2OT. Where to begin? Warriors blow a 16-point lead in 4 minutes. Curry goes for 58 minutes, 44 points and 11 assists. Manu Ginobili, who has played abysmally throughout the game, ends up hitting the game-winner with 1.2 seconds left.
I guess we’ll start with that game-winner. Sorry for the pain of watching that. The Warriors end up with Bazemore having to guard two players because Harrison Barnes and Jarrett Jack are guarding the same player. Bazemore guards the guy going to the hoop, and can’t close out in time. Boom.
Miscommunication. Lack of discipline. These are signs of youth. In this game, much like Game 6 against the Nuggets, the Warriors looked like a poised, mature team until everything fell apart in the last few minutes. You being a Warriors fan, what did you make of the collapse?Derek: It sucks. You just kind of watch hoping they won’t blow it but you never really feel safe with a lead. Especially when you see Tony Parker go into takeover mode and there’s not a single defender on the warriors who we can throw at him the way the Spurs threw Kawhi at Curry.
It’s promising to see that we can keep up with the Spurs but for the third time we weren’t able to run away with a lead. We lucked out twice versus Denver but that’s most likely because Denver doesn’t have a guy like Parker who can just score whenever he wants.
Also, Curry needs to learn to carry that 3rd quarter momentum through to the 4th. He needs to find a way to get his shot at the end of games. But I guess that’s the problem with being a jump shooter. Hopefully, Curry learns from this and continues to develop into a star.
How’s it looking from the Spurs side? You happy with this win or scared that they had to do so much to escape with a win?
